Srinagar, April 03: In a significant legal development, a local court has convicted Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Daribal Ganderbal, for theft at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta. The verdict was pronounced by the Court of 3rd Additional Munsif/JMIC Srinagar in connection with case FIR No. 04/2025 registered at Police Station Nowhatta.
The case dates back to January 18, 2025, when the Awkaf Jamia Committee reported the theft of cash from the donation box at the historic mosque. Following swift action, Srinagar Police launched an investigation that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the accused.
The police team at Nowhatta Police Station ensured timely filing of the charge sheet, culminating in the conviction of the accused. The court sentenced Irfan Ahmad Sheikh to pay a fine of ₹500 under Section 303(2) BNS and ordered imprisonment till the rising of the court.
