Srinagar, April 22: A devastating terror attack targeting tourists in the scenic town of Pahalgam has left at least two dozen injured and has drawn strong condemnation from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
LG Manoj Sinha, in a statement on X, condemned the “cowardly terror attack” and assured strict action against those responsible. “Spoke to the DGP & Security officials. Army and J&K Police teams have rushed to the area and launched search operations,” he said, adding that directions have been issued to ensure immediate medical attention for the injured. One injured tourist has already been shifted to GMC Anantnag.
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his anguish on X, calling the attack “an abomination.” “The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough,” he wrote. Omar also mentioned that party colleague Sakina Itoo had rushed to the hospital to oversee arrangements, and he would be returning to Srinagar immediately.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti termed the incident “cowardly” and emphasized the need for a thorough probe. “Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice and examine potential security lapses,” she said.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also condemned the attack, calling it “deeply disturbing” and “against the ethos of Kashmir.” He extended prayers to the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah will review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to Srinagar this evening and is also scheduled to visit the site of the Pahalgam terror attack.
