Leopard mauls minor boy to death in Bijbehara

A two-year-old boy was mauled to death by a Leopard at Check Dadoo village in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday evening.

An official told that a two-year-old boy identified as Burhan Zahoor, son of Zahoor Ahmad Khan of Check Dadoo in Sangam Bijbehara hamlet was pounced upon by a leopard near his residence.

The leopard reportedly dragged the boy into dense orchards.

Alerted by the cries, the family and locals chased the leopard and retrieved the boy in critical condition, he said.

They evacuated the boy to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara where he succumbed to his injuries, he said.

The incident created panic among the villagers, who demanded authorities to trap the leopard to avoid any such incident in the future.

They alleged that such incidents have came to the fore in the area several times but department has failed to trap the animal­­. KNO
