Kulgam, May 29: Police in Kulgam have arrested a woman drug peddler and recovered a large amount of banned substances from her possession.
A police team from Police Station Qaimoh had set up a checkpoint at Sofigund when they noticed a woman trying to run away. The alert officers quickly caught her. On searching, they recovered 7 grams of brown sugar, 2 kilograms of poppy straw, and ₹10,000 in cash suspected to be earned from selling drugs.
The woman, whose name has not been shared, is the wife of Manto Hussain, originally from Malda, Calcutta, and currently living in Sofigund. She has been taken into custody and is being held at the police station.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 37/2025 at Police Station Qaimoh, and an investigation is now underway.
Police have urged the public to report any drug-related activities or crimes by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112. They also assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
