Kishtwar, Aug 14: The death toll from the devastating cloudburst in Chositi village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district has risen to 50, with more than 100 people still missing and over 150 injured.
The disaster struck earlier today along the Machail Mata Yatra route, triggering flash floods that swept away at least 10 houses, four temples, four government offices, and a bridge crowded with pilgrims.
Rescue teams from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police, and local administration are working round the clock in difficult conditions to locate survivors and recover bodies.
“Relief operations are in full swing, with over five columns of 60 personnel each and medical teams from the #WhiteKnightCorps deployed on the ground. Working alongside the #JKP, #SDRF, and other civilian agencies, the Army is engaged in rescuing survivors, providing medical aid, and supporting affected families. The search for the missing continues as assistance reaches those in need,” Indian Army posted on X.
Authorities have deployed heli-rescue teams, medical units, and additional manpower, urging the public to avoid the affected areas to allow unhindered relief operations.
PM Narendra Modi, LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah, and Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh have condoled the loss of lives in the Kishtwar cloudburst and assured all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
