Keeping young brains indoors for long time shall affect their mental and physical health- J&KSM

(Asian News Hub) – With Covid-19 cases decreasing & the situation improving day by day, several states in India are considering reopening all the educational institutions in a phased manner. It has been almost two years that the educational institutions across Jammu & Kashmir are shut.

According to UNESCO, India’s 3.2 million students have experienced the world’s fifth-longest school lockdown and the students of the Kashmir valley are not an exception in this regard.

In view of the impact of covid 19 pandemic on education, the Jammu and Kashmir students Movement (J&KSM), an independent student body, has demanded the reopening of schools in Kashmir valley.

President J&KSM, Gazi Muzamil has urged the UT government to realise its constitutional responsibility towards the children of the valley.

He stressed the need for a better public education system that helps valley emerge from this moment of crisis.”Before annual examinations of class 10th & 12th which have been tentatively scheduled in November, it is appropriate and logical to open the doors of schools and colleges in J&K,” Gazi added.

Government should give the parents an option of sending their children to school to attend offline classes, said General Secretary J&KSM, Danish khan.

Media coordinator J&KSM, Mir Tajamul Islam expressed sorrow over the continuous shutdown of educational institutions and degrading education system due to pandemic and urged the state administration to reopen all educational institutions with proper safety guidelines to follow.

As restrictions have been removed from all other sectors, unfortunately, the educational sector has been closed till further orders by the administration.

Educational institutions were shut in March last year due to the continuous pandemic.

As the phased reopening of educational institutions has begun in the country and all social practices, gatherings and functions are rampantly going on with no restrictions to 25 people only, it becomes imperative to unlock the doors of schools, colleges & universities across Jammu & Kashmir.
