Srinagar, Sept 20: Two meat samples of Kababs and Roasted Chicken, collected during a recent crackdown in Srinagar have been declared unsafe for consumption, official lab reports have confirmed.
The tests conducted at the National Food Laboratory (NFL), Ghaziabad, a copy of which lies with ANH, revealed the presence of banned synthetic colours including tartrazine, sunset yellow, and carmoisine, in the prepared Kabab sample and the roasted Chicken sample. However, a third sample of Beef Balls (Gustaba) was found to be within the prescribed standards.
In all, 18 samples were lifted across Srinagar, of which two failed the quality tests.

The crackdown by authorities also led to the seizure of nearly 1,400 kilograms of meat and meat products, the single largest haul reported so far in the Valley.
Officials said licences of several city-based operators, including Al-Taqwa Foods, Aarif Enterprises, Sunshine Foods, and Anmol Foods, have been suspended.
Police have registered FIRs and imposed fines as part of the ongoing investigation.
