Talking to Asian News Hub (ANH), Shah said that one among the reasons for the high airfare is that the J&K is in heavy demand at present, adding that the matter has been already taken up with the concerned higher ups.

“A capping mechanism without tinkering the overall dynamics of the market has to come up in this regard as the airfare hike should not make our destinations prohibited. The steps are being taken to ensure that the tourists whether domestic or international are facilitated and the fare is regulated,” he said.

He further said that despite the rise in airfare, there has been no impact on the tourist footfall as the number of tourists visiting J&K is increasing compared to last year.

About G-20 event, he said that it is for the first time that the J&K is hosting an event with such a magnitude here. “It is an opportunity for J&K to showcase the Union Territory as tourist destination,” he said.

He further said that as a prelude to event, the government has decided to hold cultural events for 15 days through which the rich culture of J&K will be showcased.
