Srinagar, May 21: An IndiGo flight 6E2142, operating from Delhi to Srinagar, encountered a severe hailstorm mid-air on Wednesday evening, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency while approaching Srinagar.
The Airbus A320 aircraft, bearing registration number VT-IMD, was carrying 227 passengers. Despite the turbulent weather, the flight landed safely at Srinagar International Airport at 6:30 PM. All passengers and crew members are safe, according to an official from the airport.

The airline has declared the aircraft AOG (Aircraft on Ground), indicating that it will remain grounded for technical inspection and necessary repairs. Initial reports suggest visible damage to the aircraft, including to the nose cone.
One of the passengers took to social media platform X to describe the ordeal, writing, “I was in the plane and heading back home from Srinagar… it was a near-death experience… the nose of the plane is damaged.”
