IF campaign against drug addiction, suicides reaches Baramulla; Conference held at Central Mosque, Pattan

(Asian News Hub) – Continuing the initiative, a day-long conference under the title ‘Depression, Rising suicides and Drug abuse’ was organized by Islamic Fraternity on Friday at Jamia Masjid Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A well-known scholar and Da’ee, Mr. Athar Khan was chief guest on the occasion, while as, Sheikh Maasid Sidiq Al Qaseemi, a scholar, Mufti Abdul Rehman, Head Central Mosque Pattan, President Private Schools’ Association of J&K (PSAJK), GN War, Moulana Farooq Ahmad, And Muzafar Ahmad, Representing the north Kashmir unit of Islamic Fraternity were among the speakers who spoke about the rising cases of drug addicts and suicides in Valley.

Mr. Athar Khan said that Muslims should never indulge in such things as Islam has strict rules about drug addiction and committing suicides.“We should always stick to the rope of Allah and never leave that in any circumstances. Our hope on Allah is enough to survive all the troubles and challenges in life,” he said.

He appealed Muslims in Kashmir to get connected with the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Sahaabah and ponder- how as a human being Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Sahaabah lived their lives.

President Islamic Fraternity (IF), Muhammad Aamir said that the conference is part of the campaign that IF has initiated to curb the drug abuse and suicides in Valley and that several other programs are in queue to raise awareness about the menace of drug abuse in Kashmir.

He stressed on the Islamic education in all the private schools in Valley and urged private school owners to make Islamic Studies mandatory subject for all the classes in their schools.

“The gap between Islam and Muslims is widening which is the primary reason behind one after other social evils in the society. I request owners of private schools that they make Islamic Studies subject compulsory in their institutions,” he said.

President Private Schools’ Association of J&K (PSAJK), GN War, who also spoke on the occasion, said that there was an urgent need to raise awareness about drug abuse in Valley as ignoring it will destroy our young generation.Sheikh Maasid Al Qaseemi stressed on  communication between parents and their children in controlling and curbing drug addiction in Valley.

Speaking on the occasion, Moulana Farooq Ahmad appealed people to practice Islam in its entirety to lessen the chances of social evils to spread in society.Muhammad Aamir concluded the conference by thanking guests, speakers and the participants who had come from multiple districts of Kashmir. He said that the campaign will continue by organizing different programs across the Valley.
