Srinagar, Feb 19: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has annulled the detention order of journalist Majid Hyderi under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Justice V.K. Chatterjee overturned Hyderi’s detention under the PSA, as confirmed by his counsel, advocate Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, to PTI.
Hyderi was taken into custody in September 2023 on allegations of extortion and defamation. He was subsequently booked under the PSA and imprisoned in Kot Bhalwal Jail.

In a separate ruling, the High Court rejected a petition by advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, who had challenged his detention under the PSA.
Qayoom was arrested in December last year in connection with the 2020 murder of advocate Babar Qadri.
