Gbl Police Solve Livestock Theft Case: Six Arrested, Stolen Sheep, Goats Recovered

Ganderbal, Oct 29: In a swift and effective operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully solved a livestock theft case, arresting six individuals and recovering stolen sheep and goats valued in the lakhs.

In a media statement, a police spokesman said on August 18, Mohammad Younis Jungle reported the theft of his livestock at Badipathri Behek Naranag. A formal complaint led to the registration of FIR No. 68/2024 at Police Station Kangan.

He said under the leadership of SDPO Kangan, Mohammad Ashraf, and SHO PS Kangan, Mehboob Hussain, a special police team was formed to investigate the case. Utilizing technical inputs, police recovered 30 stolen animals from the upper reaches of Gutlibagh Forests and apprehended a suspect, Showkat Ahmad Bhat, who revealed the involvement of five other accomplices.

The arrested individuals were identified as Shafeeq Ahmad Khan, Tariq Ahmad Khan, Irfan Ahmad Kataria, Mohammad Reyaz Baniya, and Irshad Ahmad Raina

In addition to the arrests, two vehicles used in the crime were seized. Authorities expect further recoveries of stolen livestock.

Local residents have praised the J&K Police for their prompt action in resolving the case. The public is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities to help combat theft and enhance community safety, the spokesman added.
