Ganderbal, Sept 13: Police in Ganderbal have arrested a notorious fraudster for posing as senior government officers to run a fake job racket.
In a media statement, a police spokesman said that the accused, identified as Illyas Hameed Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, resident of Bakura, Ganderbal, allegedly impersonated officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Kashmir University, and the Enforcement Directorate at different times. By exploiting these false identities, he duped several people by promising them government jobs in exchange for money.
He said, Bhat had also prepared forged appointment letters and fake identity cards to make his impersonation appear genuine. Acting on a warrant issued by the court, police raided his residence and seized incriminating material, including counterfeit job orders and ID cards.

He further revealed that a similar case is already registered against him at Police Station Nishat in Srinagar.
Police have appealed to the public that anyone who may have been cheated by the accused should come forward and report the matter, the spokesman added.
