New Delhi, May 15: In a historic moment, about 800 Indian Army soldiers on Tuesday became the first to travel by train from Delhi to Srinagar via Katra. This is the first such journey after the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project was completed, media reports said.

These soldiers were on leave and got stuck in different places because flights to Jammu and Kashmir were cancelled.

According to sources in the defence and security departments, the train started from Delhi and stopped at Katra.

From Katra, the soldiers changed to another train and reached Srinagar.

The journey from Katra to Srinagar took around 4 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was supposed to inaugurate the Katra-Srinagar rail section last month, but his visit was delayed due to bad weather.
