Fire Engulfs Govt Residential Quarters in Chanapora Sgr, Firefighter injured

Srinagar April 21: A block of Government residential quarters in Chanapora Srinagar, managed by the Estates department, caught fire on Saturday evening. The three-storeyed building with a pacca GCI sheet roof housed six quarters, two of which were affected by the blaze on the ground floor, official said.

An official from F&ES department told Asian News Hub that cause of the fire is currently under investigation, preliminary reports suggest extensive damage to the affected quarters, including severe damage to the ceiling, doors, windows, wooden paneling, electric wiring, refrigerator, washing machine, bedding, furnishing, and other household goods.

He said, one quarter was fully damaged, while another quarter suffered partial damage to its ceiling, wooden paneling, electric wiring, bedding, furnishing, and household goods.

Furthermore, the fire caused damage to the wiring of the first and second floors of the building. Fortunately, the swift response of the firefighting teams prevented further escalation of the situation, he said.

During the rescue operation, one firefighter, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, sustained minor eye injuries. He was promptly transported to SMHS hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.
