DC Bla inaugurates eco-friendly sanitary napkin production unit

The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) in collaboration with Vatsalya Foundation, a Non Government Organisation Baramulla today established a Sanitary Napkin manufacturing unit at Fathepora Baramulla.

The unit was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar.

During the inauguration, CEO Vatsalya Foundation and team of JKRLM, SHG members were also present.

On the occasion, the Self Help Groups (SHGs) members were trained for successful running of the unit.

Pertinently, the good thing in the sanitary Napkin manufacturing unit is that the material used is eco friendly (Biodegradable) and its cost is also low as compared to the others.

In order to support the manufacturing unit, 50 schools were identified by education department Baramulla where Vatsalya Foundation will provide incinerators and vending machines and the unit will supply the sanitary Napkins to these schools. 

Similarly, to provide first hand training 100 teachers (Female only) were provided training at Boys Higher Secondary School Baramulla.

After inauguration of the unit, the DC said that this project will simultaneously help in spreading awareness on the benefits of adopting hygienic practices and overcoming problems of availability and affordability of sanitary napkins to women in the area. 

She further said that this is a much needed initiative that will help serve a key area of women’s health, and therefore will be of immense benefit to the overall community.
