People in several areas of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have polluted the roads by dumping heaps of garbage and cow dung on road sides. Locals of said areas have appealed to authorities to identify the people and take action as per law against them.

They said that garbage has piled up and even cow dung can be seen piled up on the roads as the local municipal committees and concerned block offices have failed to maintain and upkeep cleanliness of these roads in Bandipora.

They said that similar scenes can be witnessed on Srinagar-Bandipora road near Nesbal, Gunddachina, Garoora and Saderkoot and Sopore-Bandipora roads as well because of the callous attitude of the local administration towards cleanliness of the roads especially the Department of Rural Development who are duty bound to ensure cleanliness in rural areas.

The locals said they brought this issue into the notice of the concerned department several times, but no action was taken till date. According to locals of these areas, many households are putting heaps of garbage, Cow dung and other waste material on the roadside posing threat to the community.

Residents of Sumbal, Saderkoot, Nathpora, Garoora and adjacents have appealed to District Administration Bandipora to take strict action against those households.

An official said that strict action will be taken against those who dump garbage and cow dung along roadside in the district and added that people should refrain from dumping such waste and assured that within days, the waste will be cleared from the roads and notices will be served to those who dump waste on the roads.

Locals appealed to the district development commissioner Bandipora, to personally look into the matter and help resolve this problem at the earliest.
