Jammu, Nov 10: PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that instead of answering every question to CM Omar Abdullah, he should go to the people and explain how many promises he made and how many issues he resolved over the year.

Addressing a press conference in Jammu, she said the CM often refers to the PDP in public statements. “Instead of focusing on governance, he repeatedly mentions PDP, like in past Lok Sabha and assembly elections,” she said.

Mufti also addressed the smart meter issue, noting that Abdullah had earlier opposed them but now promoted their installation.

She added that promises regarding gas cylinder distribution had not been implemented and that gas costs and unemployment had increased.

On prisoners in Kashmir, Mufti said the PDP had tried to assist families. “We approached authorities when all doors were closed. There is a family with a blind father and a prisoner who is also blind, along with young sisters. The prisoner has been in jail for 7–8 years without proven crime. We may have to go to court to pursue justice,” she said.

Mufti also questioned policies on electricity and land. She said residents promised free electricity were now being considered “electricity thieves” for not installing meters. Similarly, those living on government land for decades were being labeled land grabbers. She said PDP had introduced bills to protect the rights of daily wagers and landowners.

Addressing employee terminations during the PDP-BJP coalition government, Mufti said, “The CM recently claimed that the first signature on the termination process was mine, as I was Chief Minister at the time. What did Umar Sahib do then? He did not raise any concerns or request evidence.”

She also questioned Abdullah’s administrative priorities, saying he had not addressed issues in his constituency over the past year, despite visiting areas for by-elections.

Mufti said ministers had focused on one seat while broader governance concerns remained unaddressed.

Mufti urged Abdullah to clarify government actions on administration and governance.

She said the PDP had taken steps to protect citizens’ rights and planned to continue legislative measures to address issues affecting residents.(KNS)
