Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kupwara, Dr Mohammad Ramzan told that a chicken pox case has been reported in Puthwari Nowgam and all necessary precautions are being taken in this regard.

He said that a 9-month-old baby has been detected with chicken pox and has been kept in isolation at his home.

“Just a single case has been reported and there is no need to panic, but people must take precautions,” he said.

The officials said that teams of doctors have been constituted to keep a vigil on the situation in the area.

More and more people, especially children, are being checked in the area to avoid the spread of this highly contagious disease, they said.

Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It can cause an itchy, blister-like rash among other symptoms and the rash first appears on the chest, back, and face, and then spreads over the entire body. KNO
