Budgam, Oct 06: Budgam Police have registered a case against the administrator of a Facebook page titled “Kashmir Speaks” for allegedly spreading fake and misleading news on social media.
According to police, an earlier case (FIR No. 165/2025) had been filed on 26 August 2025 at Police Station Khansahib under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was related to the killing of a horse in Rakhai village, which, as investigations later revealed, took place due to a personal dispute between the involved parties.
However, on 5 October 2025, the Facebook page “Kashmir Speaks” allegedly published false information, claiming that the horse had been killed for selling its meat in the market at Arizal. Police said the post created unnecessary fear and panic among locals.
Taking serious note of this, police have registered a fresh case (FIR No. 187/2025) under Section 353(2) of BNS at Police Station Khansahib. The investigation is underway.
Budgam Police have urged citizens and social media users not to share or spread unverified news that can disturb public peace and harmony. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in spreading misinformation.
