8 gamblers held in Baramulla, stake money seized: Police

Police in Baramulla said to have arrested eight gamblers in separate actions and seized stake money from their possession.

In a statement to Asian News Hub, a police spokesman said police party of Police Station Sheeri acting on specific information regarding presence of gamblers at Barrage Gantamulla raided the specific spot and arrested five gamblers who tried to flee from the spot. They have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Tantray son of late Abdul Jabbar resident of Kanthbagh Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Najar son of late Abdul Ahad, Abdul Majeed Teli son of Ghulam Din Teli and Ghulam Nabi son of Mohammad Rajab Najar, all residents of Banglowbagh Baramulla and Shabir Ahmad son of Gh Mohammad Wani resident of Khanpora Baramulla. Officers have seized stake money of Rs 34,650/- and playing cards from their possession.

Similarly in another action, acting on specific input regarding presence of gamblers at Iqbal Colony Pattan, a police party of Police Station Pattan raided the specific spot and arrested 3 gamblers from the spot. They have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Khanday son of Gh Mohd, Altaf Ahmad Shah son of Gh Ahmad Shah and Ab Hamid Miyan son of Ab Rashid Miyan, all residents of Pattan. Officers have seized playing cards alongwith stake money of Rs 4,960/ from their possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units, the spokesman added.
