Poonch, May 07: In one of the most intense ceasefire violations in recent times, heavy shelling by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district has left 12 civilians dead and 42 others injured, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr Parvaiz, informed media persons that emergency medical teams have been deployed and the injured are being treated at district and sub-district hospitals. “The condition of several injured persons remains critical,” he said.
The shelling, which began late Tuesday night, reportedly targeted civilian areas, triggering panic and mass evacuations in border villages.

The escalation follows Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory offensive launched by Indian armed forces. India carried out precision strikes on nine strategic locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), targeting terrorist launchpads and key infrastructure linked to terror networkss.
Tensions remain high along the LoC, with authorities on high alert.
