Family members told Asian News Hub (ANH) that the deceased, identified as Khalid Sharief Bhat, a resident of Arampora Sopore, had gone out for outing around 8–10 days ago.

“He had gone for outing, and on December 8 we received a call from him. He told us that he was at Jewel Chowk Jammu. After that, when we called him again, his phone was switched off,” the family said.

They added that on Wednesday, they saw reports on social media about an unidentified body recovered in Vijaypur. “We then contacted Vijaypur Police, and they informed us that they had indeed found a body but it was unidentified. SHO Vijaypur cooperated with us a lot,” the family said.

Alleging foul play, the family claimed there were injury marks on Khalid’s head. “We believe this is a murder. We want justice. Why were there wounds on his head? We don’t know who he was with. We appeal to SSP Sopore and SHO Vijaypur to ensure justice is delivered,” they said.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further investigation is underway.
