Srinagar, May 16: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly responded to Mehbooba Mufti after she criticized his support for restarting the Tulbul Navigation Project.
Replying to Mehbooba’s earlier remarks, Omar wrote on social media platform X, “What’s really unfortunate is that in your attempt to gain cheap publicity and to please people across the border, you are ignoring the truth. The Indus Water Treaty (IWT) has been one of the biggest betrayals of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He further added, “I have always been against this treaty and will continue to oppose it. Calling out an unfair treaty is not warmongering. It’s about fighting for the rights of the people of J&K, who have long been denied the use of their own water.”
Omar’s statement came after Mehbooba Mufti accused him of making irresponsible comments at a time when India and Pakistan had just avoided a major conflict. She warned that raising such issues could further escalate tensions and harm peace in the region.
Omar had shared a video of the Wular Lake and suggested resuming the Tulbul Project, which was earlier stopped due to Pakistan’s objections under the Indus Water Treaty.
