Srinagar, Aug 15: National Conference (NC) president and incumbent parliamentarian, Dr Farooq Abdullah hoisted the Tricolour at his Gupkar residence on the occasion of Independence Day on Monday.

Addressing party leaders and workers during the function, Dr Abdullah, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) pitched for unity to defeat the evil designs and strengthen the country’s sovereignty.

He said that the officers and security forces have been giving sacrifices and nobody can forget it, while there are many challenges ahead and “we should remain ready to face it even more strongly.”

He added that the country has to be protected and it has to progress as well.

Congratulating people on the occasion of Independence Day, Dr Farooq said that after 75 years of freedom from British, India has been capable to grow the produce, which is not only sufficient for the country, but also exports it to the other countries where the crop yield is low.

“In the recent times, our country sent wheat to Afghanistan many a times. Still, we import things from other countries. The time has to come when we should do away with the imports,” he said.
