Srinagar, Sept 13: BJP Spokesperson Altaf Thakur on Saturday accused the National Conference (NC) of doublespeak, saying its remarks on the Ashoka Emblem were misleading and disrespectful to a national symbol that represents every Indian.
Referring to the coin issued by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which carries the Ashoka Emblem on one side and the image of Mata Vaishno Devi on the other, Thakur said this itself was proof that the emblem is a symbol of unity, respect, and honour for all faiths.
“By questioning this, the NC is not only misleading people but also showing disrespect to a national emblem that belongs to all Indians, beyond caste, creed, or religion,” Thakur said.

He added that for the BJP, the nation and its symbols stand above “petty politics.” “Respecting all religions and protecting India’s pride is our commitment,” Thakur said.
