The National Medical Commission’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has withdrawn the Letter of Permission (LoP) granted to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Kakryal, Reasi, for running the MBBS course with 50 seats for the academic year 2025–26.
The decision, issued on January 6, 2026, takes immediate effect and follows serious deficiencies found during a surprise inspection, officials said. The inspection reportedly revealed non-compliance with the minimum standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission.
To safeguard the academic interests of students already admitted for the 2025–26 session, the NMC has authorised the State/UT authorities to accommodate these students in other government medical institutions within the Union Territory. The students may be adjusted as supernumerary seats in accordance with applicable norms, NMC officials said.

Further action will be taken as per regulatory provisions, officials added.
