Srinagar, May 20: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz on Monday strongly criticised the National Conference (NC) government, saying it has failed at every level. He said the previous administration under the Lieutenant Governor (LG) was more effective, especially in delivering development and addressing public issues.

Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, the Kupwara MLA said, “People are genuinely angry, and it is completely justified.” He blamed the current government for stalled development works, slow bureaucracy, lack of funds, and poor infrastructure.

“People voted with hope and gave NC a clear majority, expecting better results than during the LG rule. But even the ongoing works have come to a stop,” he added.

Mir Fayaz highlighted that in the last seven months, no major funds have been released, despite several requests from MLAs and the public. “During the LG administration, local bodies like Sarpanches, DDCs, and BDCs had their plans approved quickly. Work would begin in the early summer months like May and June. Today, there is no sign of any such development,” he said.

He also questioned the government’s priorities, especially criticising CM Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance department. “He is holding 15–16 departments, but nothing is moving. Files are stuck, and no department is working properly.”

The MLA claimed that budget allocations are unclear. “We were told to submit development plans worth Rs 40 crore, but there has been no response or release of funds. Even earlier approved amounts have not been disbursed.”

Mir Fayaz further alleged that the NC government is more focused on controlling police transfers and targeting opposition leaders instead of working for the people.

“People voted in large numbers for change, but things have only worsened. Even NC’s own MLAs know nothing is happening, but they are silent,” he said.

Talking about rising unemployment, he said, “The government promised 1 lakh jobs, but youth are still waiting. They are sitting unemployed, and the government is doing nothing.”
