Bengaluru, May 21: A police complaint (FIR) has been filed against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly spreading false information, police said.
The FIR was registered at High Grounds Police Station on Tuesday after a complaint by Shrikant Swaroop B N, head of the legal cell of Indian Youth Congress. The complaint was made under sections 192 (provoking with intent to cause riots) and 352 (intentionally insulting to disturb peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Swaroop claimed that Malviya and Goswami were behind a criminal campaign to spread false news. He said they wrongly claimed that the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkiye is the office of the Indian National Congress (INC).

“This was done with criminal intention to mislead Indian people, insult a big political party, play with national feelings, create unrest, and harm national security and democracy,” Swaroop said.
He also mentioned that these actions are serious because of the already tense relations between India and Turkey, especially due to Turkey’s support to Pakistan.
Swaroop said that what Malviya and Goswami did is a serious threat to India’s democracy, public safety, and national security. He demanded strong action for their misuse of power to spread lies.
He also requested the Press Council of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, CBI, and other agencies to treat this issue as an urgent matter.
