Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced extra financial help for families affected by the shelling. As a special measure, ₹2 lakh will be given for each fully damaged house and ₹1 lakh for each partially damaged one.

After PM Modi’s announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah ensured the quick release of ₹25 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs for 2,060 affected houses, according to an official statement.

The same type of compensation will also be provided to affected families in the border areas of Punjab.

Home Minister Amit Shah had visited the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on May 29-30. During his visit, he gave appointment letters to family members of those who lost their lives in cross-border firing.

The government had already been providing compensation to those affected by cross-border shelling. After Operation Sindoor, many incidents of shelling were reported in Jammu and Kashmir’s border districts, causing damage to homes, schools, religious places (including temples, mosques, and gurdwaras), and shops.

To handle the situation, the administration took timely steps. Around 3.25 lakh people were evacuated from the affected areas, and about 15,000 were sheltered in 397 camps with food, water, electricity, and healthcare facilities.

Additionally, 394 ambulances were deployed, including 62 in Poonch district alone, to transport patients to hospitals. The government also involved 2,818 civil defence volunteers to help with health services, fire and emergency response, livestock care, and supply of essentials.
