Makkah, Jun 25: The new Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba, known as the most sacred and expensive religious garment in the world, has been completed and unveiled after 11 months of detailed craftsmanship at the King Abdulaziz Complex in Makkah.
The new Kiswa weighs 1,415 kilograms and is made from 825 kg of natural silk, 120 kg of gold thread, and 60 kg of silver thread. It consists of 47 individually woven silk pieces and is adorned with 68 verses from the Holy Qur’an, all embroidered using gold and silver threads.
According to officials, the Kiswa undergoes a seven-stage production process, which includes Water Purification, Washing and Dyeing, Mechanical Weaving, Quranic Printing, Assembly and Stitching, Embroidery, and Quality Control.

The cost of producing the Kiswa is estimated at 25 million Saudi Riyals.
Traditionally, the Kiswa was replaced on the 9th or 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, during the days of Hajj. However, since 2022, the date of the replacement was officially changed to the 1st of Muharram, marking the first day of the Islamic New Year. The new timing adds greater symbolic meaning to the occasion, aligning it with the spiritual renewal of the new Islamic year.
This sacred garment is a symbol of reverence, heritage, and unmatched craftsmanship, reflecting the deep spiritual and cultural importance of the Kaaba in the Islamic world.
