Local & Non-Local militant killed in Sopore Encounter: Police

Srinagar, August 03 : Today at about 05:30 hours in early morning, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Sopore Police, 22-RR and CRPF following a credible intelligence regarding presence of militants in Village Malmapanpora of Warpora area.

As the search were being carried out, the hiding militants fired upon the security forces/ Police, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter two militants both belonging to proscribed terror outfit of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) got killed.

Among the slain militants one has been identified as Umer Shahbaz Wani S/O Mohammad Shahbaz Wani R/O Kharpora Bandipora and another one is un-identified foreign militant.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions were recovered from the encounter site.

Regarding the incident Case FIR No. 52/2019 U/S 307/RPC, 7/27 I.

Arms Act registered in Police Station Bomai and investigation taken up.

The local slain militant namely Umer Shahbaz Wani had joined the militant ranks on 02nd of June 2019 and since then was active within the jurisdiction of Police District Sopore with other militant operatives of Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Both the slain militants were involved in a series of civilian killings and attacks on Security Forces establishment.
