Lightning kills 20 in Bihar

Patna, July 04 : At least 20 people were killed after being struck by lightning across Bihar on Saturday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a heavy rainfall alert for many cities of Bihar including Patna on Saturday.

Torrential rains began in Patna at around 1 pm on Saturday and have not stopped since and many areas have also reportedly flooded.
According to the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm is expected in many districts of the state in the next 24 hours.

On Friday, eight people were killed by lightning in the state. The eight fatalities were reported from five districts, with Samastipur accounting for the highest number of three deaths, the Disaster Management Department said.

A day before Friday, 26 people were killed in lightning strikes in eight districts of the state.
More than 100 people have died due to lightning strikes in the state in the last one week.

Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has hit out at the Nitish Kumar government saying the same situation will come in Patna this year as was seen last year.

“Nitish Kumar government has not learned anything from the mistakes of last year. Nullahs and sump houses have completely failed. Two hours of rain have drowned Patna,” Tejashwi Yadav said.
