Light snow likely in higher reaches of J&K on Dec 4–5: MeT

Srinagar, Dec 2: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Tuesday issued an extended weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting largely dry conditions across the region for most days between December 2 and December 15, with intermittent chances of light snowfall over the higher reaches.

Meanwhile, intense cold conditions prevailed across the Valley as Srinagar shivered at –2.5°C, while Shopian remained the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of –5°C.

According to the MeT, generally dry weather is expected on December 2–3, while December 4–5 may see generally cloudy skies, especially by Thursday evening, with a brief spell of light snowfall likely at isolated higher reaches late night on December 4 or early morning on December 5.

The department further said that December 6–7 will remain generally dry, followed by partly to generally cloudy weather on December 8, with a possibility of another brief spell of light snow over the higher reaches.

From December 9–13, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, while December 14–15 may again bring chances of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches.

The MeT has issued an advisory, stating that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places in Kashmir Division and at isolated places in Jammu Division, which may affect visibility during early morning and late evening hours.
