Advocates representing Malik said the court set aside the detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed against his detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.

Mehraj Malik, who represents the Doda constituency and also heads the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, over allegations of activities prejudicial to public order.

Following his detention, he was lodged in the Kathua district jail.

The petition challenging the detention came up for hearing on multiple dates before the High Court. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court had reserved its judgment on February 23 this year.
