(Asian News Hub) – President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday asserted that the government has ushered in a new era of development in Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh region.

He was addressing the customary joint session of both the houses of parliament ahead of the Union Budget, UNI reported.

Recounting the various development work undertaken by the government in the two Union Territories, Kovind said the government has started a new central scheme for Jammu & Kashmir’s industrial development at a cost of about Rs 28,000 crore.

“Last year Qazigund-Banihal tunnel was opened to traffic and international flights between Srinagar and Sharjah have also started,” he said.

Kovind also mentioned about the step being taken by the government in the Education and Health sector in the UT. “Many important steps have also been taken to provide better opportunities for education, health and employment to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, he said as per UNI.

“At present, works are in progress on seven medical colleges and two AIIMS, one in Jammu ⁹and another in Kashmir. Construction of IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu is also going on in full swing,” he said.

Talking about the infrastructure project in the Ladakh region, he said, the Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation has been set up to accelerate infrastructure and economic development in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

“Another chapter in this development journey of Ladakh is being added in the form of Sindhu Central University,” he added.
