Tehran, Apr 13: Iran has said more than 140 historical sites were damaged during recent joint strikes by United States and Israel, with 77 of the affected locations reported in Tehran alone.

According to Iranian state media, Culture Minister Reza Salehi Amiri said the destruction was recorded across 20 provinces between February 28 and April 7.

Initial estimates place the losses at 7.5 trillion tomans, or nearly USD 49 million, though officials said the figure could change after detailed assessments.

The conflict escalated after the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on February 28. Iran later responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf nations hosting American military assets.

Tehran also imposed restrictions on ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over global oil supplies and maritime security.

A two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran was announced on April 8, brokered by Pakistan as part of wider efforts to end the conflict, which has left thousands dead and injured.
