Ganderbal Police Crack Two Livestock Theft Cases, Recover Sheep Worth Lakhs; 3 Arrested

Ganderbal, Sept 13: Ganderbal Police have solved two livestock theft cases within days, recovering sheep worth several lakhs and arresting three accused persons involved in the crime.

According to police, on September 8 and 11, Police Stations Kheerbawani and Kangan received written complaints from Jalal-ud-Din, son of Abdul Salam, a resident of Kokagund Sehpora, and Wahid Ahmad (Bakerwal), son of Haji Noorani, originally from Chadrakote and presently living in Hayan Kangan. They reported that during the intervening nights of September 3/4 and 5/6, unidentified thieves broke into their cowsheds at Kokagund Sehpora and Hayan Palpora and stole 37 sheep.

Based on the complaints, FIRs No. 31/2025 and 63/2025 were registered at PS Kheerbawani and PS Kangan. Acting swiftly under the directions of SSP Ganderbal, Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), special police teams were formed under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ganderbal and SDPO Kangan, led by SHO PS Kheerbawani Gulzar Ahmad and SHO PS Kangan Lateef Ahmad.

During investigation, police apprehended a suspect, Shabir Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat, resident of Arigoripora Kangan. On questioning, he admitted to having purchased six stolen sheep from Momin Bashir Ganie alias Sahil, son of Bashir Ahmad of Gundi Mohalla Sehpora, along with Basit Bashir (son of Bashir Ahmad) and Hilal alias Huzaib of Pehlipora Safapora. Six sheep were recovered on his disclosure, and Shabir Ahmad was arrested.

The police also apprehended accused Momin Bashir and seized a vehicle (JK04D-0256) used in the commission of the crime. Meanwhile, another police team from PS Kangan arrested Gh. Nabi Dar, son of Mohd Akbar Dar of Ruhama, Pulwama, from whom 15 stolen sheep were recovered.

In total, three accused have been arrested so far in connection with the two cases, while police said more arrests and recoveries are expected.

The quick action of Ganderbal Police has been widely appreciated by locals, who hailed the force for solving the cases in record time. Police have appealed to the public to continue cooperating and sharing timely information about criminal activities to help ensure a crime-free Ganderbal.
