Srinagar, April 15: In the heart of Kashmir, where conflict once overshadowed creativity, a remarkable revival is unfolding—one thread at a time. Miras Carpet Industries, founded by two visionary brothers, Mir Nawaz and Mir Waseem, is breathing new life into the Valley’s age-old art of hand-knotted carpets and pashmina shawls. Their journey from humble beginnings to global recognition is a story of hope, heritage, and human resilience.

Back in 2005, with just a loan of ₹50,000, the Mir brothers set up a small shop in Hampi, Karnataka. Inspired by their roots and driven by a desire to preserve Kashmir’s rich artisanal legacy, they named their venture “Miras”—which means “legacy.” Little did they know, their dream would grow into one of India’s most inspiring success stories.

From that single outlet, Miras Carpet Industries has grown into a globally recognized brand with over 20 carpet factories, 36 pashmina looms, and a workforce of 250 skilled artisans. Their products, all hand-crafted with meticulous attention to detail, have earned the prestigious GI Tag and now adorn luxury hotels, royal residences, and VVIP lounges across the world.

But Miras is more than just a brand—it’s a lifeline for hundreds of Kashmiri artisans. By offering fair wages, safe working conditions, and training opportunities, the company has provided dignity and stability to many who once struggled to make ends meet.

Their innovation has even set industry records, achieving an extraordinary 40 knots per square inch in their carpets—a testament to the craftsmanship that defines Miras.

With plans to open ten new stores in major Indian cities and robust online platforms (www.mirascrafts.in and www.mirascrafts.com), Miras is taking Kashmir’s rich artistry to a global audience.

Even more exciting is their upcoming headquarters in Gulmarg—a sprawling 65,000-square-meter facility that will feature live carpet weaving demonstrations. This space will serve as both a cultural showcase and a sustainable employment hub for artisans, making it a must-visit landmark for tourists and craft enthusiasts alike.

The story of Miras Carpet Industries is a powerful reminder that tradition, when nurtured with vision and dedication, can lead to transformation. Mir Nawaz and Mir Waseem have not only preserved their heritage—they’ve turned it into a global symbol of excellence and empowerment.

At a time when traditional crafts are disappearing across the world, Kashmir’s own Miras stands tall—proof that with passion, purpose, and perseverance, anything is possible.
