Srinagar, May 15 (ANH) : Lack of female technicians in Electrocardiogram (ECG) section, USG Breast, Mammography in government hospital is forcing many female patients to skip the diagnostic test at the hospital.
Most women take offence to male technicians undertaking these type of test and many of them either opt for private diagnostic centre where female technicians are available or they skip the test .
“From last many month my sister complained of chest pain due to which she is not able to breathe properly after visiting the doctors at SMHS hospital Srinagar,he has prescribed an ECG,” told farhat to Asiannewshub.
When we visited the SMHS hospital were this was to be done, we find a male technician, we were not aware what this test is, as my sister has never gone through this test nor me, when the technician told (khalew frock hour), make your clothes up,when she heard this she immediately get up and left the room,” said Farhat Jan.
The ECG is commonly used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and to investigate the cause of chest pains. It is essential tests both for pregnant women who may have to undergo cesarean and for those normal patient who are complain heart related issues.
While A breast ultrasound is most often done to find out if a problem found by a mammogram or physical exam of the breast may be a cyst filled with fluid or a solid tumor.
These tests involve applying a medicated gel and placing electrodes on patient’s chest, because of the dearth of female technicians, female patient are made to suffer, patients or reluctant for doing this test.
“we cannot blame hospital authority for that, we just simple need female techniques in the government hospital so that without any reluctant female can do this test ,” said a group of female patient to Asiannewshub.
While on the other side Doctors at different hospital admitted that lack of female technicians was a handicap.
“Whenever I tell female patients to do an ECG, USG Breast or mammography they always show reluctance, they immediately said is there is any alternate option we don’t want to go for this test as they are worried that they have to undress in front of a male technician and when they prefer private diagnostic centre their they have to pay more as compared to hospital fee which is the main reason they skip the diagnostics which is an important aspect of the treatment, a doctor told Asiannewshub.
The female patients often skip the test due to which sometime their health related problem increase we know the female patients are deprived of their right to privacy, and it is a concern but what can we do either we don’t have female technique or the administration of the hospital did not fill the vacant posts,” they added.(ANH)
