According to an official order issued by the Assistant Commissioner and Designated Officer, Food Safety Anantnag, the action was taken after a social media video surfaced allegedly showing an employee of M/S Bulk Milk Cooler (JKMPCL) tasting milk with his tongue and then returning the leftover milk to containers meant for public consumption.
Following the video, an authorised Food Safety Officer conducted an inspection of the premises on April 29, 2026. The inspection report flagged multiple violations and recommended suspension of the licence.
Officials said the violations included storage of chemicals such as diesel and cleaning agents in the milk storage area, use of non-food-grade plastic containers, uncovered water storage tanks, and overall lack of proper hygiene practices at the facility.
The order noted that handling and storage of high-risk food items under such conditions violates provisions of Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards Act and poses a potential threat to public health.
Acting under Section 36 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Designated Officer suspended the unit’s licence with immediate effect until further orders.
