At least ten people were injured after a double-storeyed residential house collapsed during a condolence gathering at Chandergir village in the Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday.
Officials said the incident occurred when a large number of people had assembled at the house to offer condolences following the death of the house owner, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar, a resident of Chandergir Hajin. Dar, a former Fire and Emergency Services employee, had passed away a day earlier due to illness.
According to preliminary assessment, the heavy gathering inside the house put excessive load on the structure, leading to its sudden collapse. Panic broke out as several mourners were trapped under debris before being rescued.
