A doctor at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla has been booked after a shocking video surfaced showing him assaulting a patient inside a hospital ward, sparking protests and outrage across the city.
Medical Superintendent Rahul Rao said that action has been initiated against the accused doctor and an inquiry report has been sought. “Further action will be taken once the report is received,” he said.
The victim has filed a police complaint, following which an FIR has been registered against the doctor.
In the viral video, the doctor is seen punching a patient lying on a hospital bed. The patient is seen resisting by kicking, while two individuals attempt to separate them. The patient reportedly suffered a nose injury in the assault.

Shot by an attendant accompanying the patient, the video spread rapidly on social media, leading to widespread outrage.
Hundreds of locals and patients gathered outside IGMC, staging a protest and demanding strict action against the accused doctor.
The victim, a resident of Nerwa area in Shimla district, said he was admitted for an endoscopy and advised rest for a few hours. He alleged that while he was lying on a vacant bed, the doctor approached him and began misbehaving.
According to the victim, the situation escalated when he asked the doctor to speak respectfully, following which the doctor physically assaulted him. The accused doctor, however, has claimed that the patient misbehaved with him first.
The incident has triggered anger among the public and hospital visitors, who are demanding transparency in the probe and harsh punishment if the allegations are proven true. More details are awaited. (PTI)
