Dense fog engulfs Kashmir, weatherman predicts more smoggy mornings till Dec 31

No forecast of wet spell by end of this month, light snow expected in between Jan 1-3: Director MeT

Dense fog engulfed most parts of the Kashmir Valley on Monday while the weatherman here has predicted foggy mornings till December 31st, saying that there is no forecast of any wet spell during the period.

Commuters had to face tremendous hardships till afternoon as the defense fog continued to engulf most parts of the Valley today.

With no forecast of any weather activity till December 31st, Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told that the foggy mornings would continue to be witnessed during the next few days till December 31st.

“There would be no let up in foggy conditions. The dense fog would continue to engulf Kashmir parts till any weather activity would occur,” he said.

Besides, the night temperature continues to settle below freezing point across the Valley today while Pahalgam was the coldest place at minus 4.3 degree Celsius.

According to the data prepared by the MeT department here, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir shivered at minus 2.3 degree Celsius.

Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, has recorded a low of minus 2.6 degree Celsius while a similar night temperature of minus 2.6 degree Celsius was also recorded in South Kashmir’s Qazigund station.

Kupwara in north Kashmir has recorded a low of minus 3.0 degree Celsius while Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.6 degree Celsius.

About the minimum temperatures, Director MeT, said that it will continue to fall in the coming days as there was no forecast of any weather activity.

“The weather conditions are expected to remain dry till December 31st. However, light snowfall and rains are expected between January 01st to January 3rd,” he said.

Furthermore, the MeT Director has appealed people take precautionary measures while driving during the morning hours in the foggy weather conditions and also wear face masks to stay healthy.
