(Asian News Hub) – Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was admitted to PGIMS Rohtak on prison doctors’ advice, is being given “VVIP treatment” at the medical facility, whereby a special panel of doctors and a special room has been set up for his care, Times Network reported.

The 53-year-old chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, headquartered in Haryana’s Sirsa, was found guilty of raping two female disciples. Since 2017, he has been serving his 20-year imprisonment sentence in Sunaria jail in Rohtak for the crime. On Wednesday (May 12), he complained of blood pressure issues, following which the prison doctors conducted his health check-up. The doctors recommended that he be shifted to PGIMS Rohtak for better care.

At the hospital, the rape convict’s various medical tests and examinations were conducted. On Thursday, his condition was said to be stable.

A senior PGIMS doctor said that the Dera head was initially hesitant to take a COVID-19 test. “We had asked him for samples at that time, but he was a bit hesitant initially. Our team of doctors will take these samples as per protocol in the wake of the prevailing COVID situation,” the doctor said.
