Srinagar, Nov 3: NC questions Aga Ruhullah over his legislative record on the restoration of Special Status, asking whether the Srinagar MP ever gathered signatures of fellow MPs or moved a resolution or private member’s bill in Parliament.
The National Conference (NC) issued a sharp response on Tuesday after Ruhullah criticised party leaders during a public rally in Budgam. The party accused him of using derogatory language against NC President Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
In a detailed statement on X, the NC described his address as a “manifestation of mental and moral bankruptcy”. It also questioned his decision to invoke religious texts while making the remarks.
The party said Ruhullah decided to tender his resignation only after the NC president instructed him to do so. It also challenged his criticism of the party’s past decisions.
NC Questions Ruhullah’s Stand on Special Status
The NC referred to incidents from 2010 that Ruhullah had raised during his speech. According to the party, he remained a Cabinet minister until a general reshuffle that year. He also contested the 2014 Assembly elections on an NC ticket without raising objections.
The party then questioned his record as a parliamentarian. It acknowledged that Ruhullah gathered signatures from more than 100 MPs across political parties to move an impeachment motion against an Allahabad High Court judge.
However, the NC asked why he did not make a similar collective effort for Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional rights or statehood.
It also questioned why he did not raise concerns in Parliament about the central government and the Lieutenant Governor’s administrative setup. The party alleged that the LG administration continues to control government departments through a remote-control arrangement.

NC Defends Reservation Decisions
The party also responded to the debate over job reservations. It said the NC had promised to address grievances among the open merit category arising during the LG’s rule.
According to the statement, the Cabinet Sub-Committee had already approved key changes to the reservation policy. However, the party claimed that central authorities had stalled their implementation.
The NC also questioned why Ruhullah did not challenge the LG administration over recruitment irregularities. It further asked why he did not raise the delay in approving the Cabinet’s reservation decisions.
NC Reiterates Stand on Restoration of Special Status
Reaffirming its political position, the NC said its push for statehood would never come at the cost of special status. The party pointed to a Legislative Assembly resolution passed on November 6 demanding special status. It said Ruhullah had initially welcomed the move.
The NC described his resignation decision as delayed and opportunistic. It also alleged that he contributed to the party’s defeat in the Budgam Assembly by-election while retaining his parliamentary seat.
Concluding its statement, the party referred to Ruhullah’s 25-year political career. It noted that he had served three terms as an MLA, held a ministerial portfolio and won a parliamentary seat on an NC ticket.
The party described his recent political position as “narcissistic conduct” and political theatrics.
