Srinagar, June 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday defended the recent meeting with MLAs at Dachigam National Park, saying the opposition would criticise everything the government does, but that would not stop him from governing.

Speaking at The Hindu Huddle 2026, Omar Abdullah said, “The opposition criticised it, but then they are going to criticise, that’s why they are called the opposition. They are going to oppose everything I do. That’s their job profile.”
“My job is to deliver. I am the government. I have to govern, and that’s what I will do,” he added.
The Chief Minister said the gathering at Dachigam provided an opportunity for legislators to review the past 16 to 18 months and openly discuss issues in a relaxed atmosphere.
“We went, we sat, we discussed, we took stock of the last sixteen-eighteen months. A lot of positive things came out of it and I think we also got a chance to unburden ourselves,” he said.

Taking a swipe at “resort politics,” Omar said, “At least it wasn’t resort politics. I didn’t lock them up and switch off cellphone towers. We just spent a day, had a nice picnic so to speak, chatted, learned from each other’s experiences and went home.”
