Srinagar, May 18: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, passed away at midnight at AIIMS, his grand son told Asian News Hub.
In a statement, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) spokesperson Inam Un Nabi described the deceased as a veteran teacher and a man of great integrity. He said Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh was widely respected for his lifelong commitment to education, ethics, and community service.

“He remained a steadfast source of support for Er Rashid throughout his political career,” the statement said.
Inam Un Nabi urged the Government of India to grant immediate release to the incarcerated MP on humanitarian grounds so he can attend his father’s last rites.
“It is a son’s basic right to bid farewell to his father. No political difference should come in the way of human compassion at such a time,” he said.

The spokesperson added that the demise of Haji Khazir Sheikh is a profound loss for the family, former students, and admirers across Jammu and Kashmir. He said the AIP leadership and workers stand with the bereaved family in this moment of grief.
