Anantnag, May 6: Anantnag Police have registered an FIR against the wife and son of Congress MLA Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed in connection with the locking of a government-run health facility in the Damhal Khoshipora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said FIR No. 32/2026 has been registered at Achabal Police Station on the directions of a First Class Magistrate Kokernag under relevant provisions of law, including charges related to obstruction of government officials and intimidation.

The controversy revolves around the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) at Damhal Khoshipora, which was allegedly locked by the MLA’s family, disrupting healthcare services in the area.
Officials said repeated attempts by the Health Department to persuade the family to reopen the hospital did not succeed, following which the administration intervened. Acting on complaints from the department and the public, the Tehsildar Kokernag, accompanied by a Magistrate, visited the spot and ordered the lock to be broken to restore medical services.
However, the building was allegedly locked again shortly afterwards, further escalating the issue.
According to officials, the hospital has been functioning in the building since 2008 after it was provided by the MLA’s family under a registered society. The Health Department had since been operating the facility, deploying staff and funding infrastructure under various schemes.
The MLA’s family, however, maintains that the property belongs to them and claims the building has become unsafe and dilapidated. They said the authorities had already been informed about the issue and demanded relocation of the facility.
The incident drew widespread attention after videos surfaced on social media showing the MLA’s wife alleging that she was manhandled during the administration’s intervention. Authorities have denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, local residents expressed concern over the closure of the hospital, saying patients were forced to seek treatment in temporary setups, including a nearby shop.
