According to reports, she had been taking prescribed tablets as part of her treatment when her health suddenly deteriorated, triggering panic among family members.

The medicines were reportedly purchased from a local medical store. The family later filed a complaint through an online grievance portal, following which officials from the district administration and the Drug Control Department rushed to the hospital to assess the situation.

The Drug Control Officer Kupwara confirmed that a formal probe has been initiated.

“Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible,” the officer said, adding that the supply chain and source of the medicine are being verified.

Officials have termed the incident serious, warning that expired medicines can pose significant health risks. They stressed the need for strict monitoring of pharmacies and regular inspections to prevent such cases.
